4EFTE Water Port

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this forum is used anymore or if anyone is around, but I'm a regular member/owner of austarletclub.com.

These days the forum is no longer alive and everyone has gone to facebook however today I'm chasing a question which a lot of us has asked for many years.

The extra water port on the 4efte Head.. What on earth is it used for ? The 4efte inlet manifold blocks it off, every other 4E manifold blocks it off.. So why is it even there ?

That port is there because it provides cooling and a coolant source for thermal VSVs of the carbureted intake manifolds

All the EF heads, carbureted and fuel injected alike, are the same casting...with the exception of the US DIS head

However only the earlier heads have that port

You'll notice the EP91 heads don't and even the flange of the intake manifold Is designed differently because the port is no longer there

Thanks for the quick reply man,
So does anyone know which cars actually had that Carbureted intake manifolds ? Because from I believe this 4E head only came out in production in 1990 for the starlet which all had electronic fuel injection ?
Even the EP71 2E-TE was fuel injected and that was made 4 years earlier

Wikipedia says it also came out in 1989 but every variant was fuel injected

Well first 4EF I ever saw was in my mom's 95 Toyota Corsa in Jamaica

Fully decked out, power windows, power door locks, power folding mirrors

4EF carbureted, 4 speed automatic transmission

Perhaps you're stuck on believing that the 4E only came in the EP chassis

E motors came in EP, EL, EE, EXY and maybe even more I'm not aware of

And variants are usually specific to the markets they're designated for

I'm not stuck in believing anything, and I'm learning everyday like everyone else. I know the 4E came out in a bunch chassis like the Paseo, Sera & Corsa etc, I'd just never seen one before that had a Carbi on it, and my second question is why would toyota use such backward technology when they had everything already made to go fuel injection.

As always, answers bring more questions.
