'92 paseo 5efhe

just picked up the silver paseo w/ my original 5efhe motor in it... good to be back in my hands...
running good, but clutch slipping badly... that's the first fix... got all the parts i need...
next is a general cleanup...
it's in great shape, almost no rust... tiny bit on 1 rear arch, tiny bit under rocker panels... paint is faded, though... interior is great, except for sun-faded...
trim around door needs repair, trim around windshield, too... remove mismatched wing, change tires, filters, oils...

There's no better feeling then getting your old car back, as long as the previous owner didn't butcher it up.

actually, the paseo was never mine, but the motor/transmission in it originally was mine...
i just finished the clutch swap... not easy to do alone, but i used the forklift to hold up the motor while i dropped the transmission out on a jack... barely had to sand the flywheel, but the old clutch/pressure plate was toast...
only problem i had was after i remounted the transmission, the bearing fork was loosey, & the slave cylinder wouldn't mount up... dropped the transmission again to find that it had slipped off the throw-out bearing when i was struggling to get it up onto the motor... added 2 hours to the job, but i learned more...
also had to disconnect the front swaybar mounting brackets to get the control arms the flex enough to remount the ball joints...

then i'm gonna do all the first "just bought the car" maintenance work...

it's weird driving the paseo... power steering feels strange after driving without it so long...
the new clutch is grabbing good... totally smooth shifting... it's a basic clutch, though...
gonna swap the stock shifter out for a short shifter tomorrow... that should improve the shifter feel... i'll bolt on the strut bar, too...

got the strut bar on, no noticeable difference... the stock suspension is too soft, & wheels/tires need to be changed... the shifter will go on tomorrow, though... today was a hard day @ work... really warm, and super humid in the greenhouses... had a coworker walk off the job, today...

haven't done the shifter, yet... too busy/tired...
but started to have overheating problems, so i'm replacing the water pump and thermostat tomorrow...
gonna do the shifter asap, though... i keep miss-shifting because the throw is too tall... also swapping the stock paseo steering wheel for a 13" aftermarket wheel... P/S make the diameter irrelevant...

plates swapped over last week, not riding dirty no more...
took the rear wing off, not sure how i should repair the rusty holes in the trunk... for now i cleaned them up and cover the holes w/ duct tape, lol... almost matches the silver paint...:lachen:
looks better without the wing... sleek...
gonna order a set of 205/50/15 high performance tires for my old silver ECD speedmagic wheels... silver on silver will look good...

also temporarily swapped the thermostat out for the one from my "other" 5efhe... problem semi-solved... still need a new thermostat, though...

i think i'll swap the triple core radiator in, for better cooling...

short-shifter tomorrow...
