Block heater

Hi everyone,

It's cold in Canada.

...and my Tercel never came with a block heater.

So here I am at the store to order one. $35.

Now... does it go into the frost plug at Cylinder 1 or Cylinder 4 ? Two manuals say two different things. The Toyota dealer had no idea, as they haven't seen a Tercel in ages.

(in other words... does it go into the frost plug near the oil filter, or the one closest to the transmission/oil pressure sensor?)

Closest to the belts will keep the heat in the engine.

I'd go for a circulating tank type heater like the ones Kats makes. You can get them in much higher wattages for faster warm up times.

Hi everyone, an update of what I have found.

There is a nicely detailed previous post about installing a block heater. I shows to install it into the 35mm frost plug next to the transmission.

http://board.tercelonline.com/viewthread.php?action=printable&t...

BUT... Toyota says it goes into the second frost plug, the one beside the oil filter. That said, that frost plug is 30mm

Now when I went to three different stores, they all insist that the block heater for the Tercel is a 35mm diameter. The only frost plug with a 35mm is the one next to the transmission.

So big question is... does it matter where the block heater goes?
