I plan on replacing the battery with the proper sidepost one, and grabbing a hold down from the local junk yard to clean that up and then I'll be able
to restore the rad overflow tank to where its supposed to be and try to clean up my engine bay some.
estabon, u2u me about that, I'm looking into getting all my bushings from nose to tail replaced preferably with poly so I'm interested. depending on
how much i can get the LCA for at work i may just start buying all new parts and make the thing as new as it was when it was made... maybe.

Because it's the most terrible design of a battery.
I could choke GM for putting that crap in a 4th gen F-body.

i figured sidepost was what it came with because of the style crappy connectors it had on it when i got the car. either way i need to get the right
battery so that i can fix that area under the hood.

Someone probably replaced the originals with a $2 Walmart special.

My 92 has a top post battery.
Those battery terminals are not even close to OEM.

Try this with your old shifter....

jam the stick into the vise upside-down with the pivoting ball aprox 2" above the vise jaws and tighten it as much as you can. Then grab a torch and
heat the ball. Some models used a type of "lock-tite" to keep the ball in place aswell as friction. If it's got the "lock-tite" in there you'll see it
bubble and steam as it boils out. Then grab a couple of soft-metal washers and place them onto the stick so they rest on the ball. This will protect
the ball from getting dented. Then grab a 8" long piece of a thick-walled pipe that just barely fits onto the stick, and slide it onto the stick so
itrests on the washers. Then pound the hell out of it with a 3lbs hand sledge. It will eventually slide. Don't worry about the stick getting a little
scraped up in the vise. That can be sanded/ground smooth later.
Trust me once this is done all that BS is gonna be worth it. |
