Working on transmissions is something that scares people... Hardest part is pressing the gears into the bell housing...

Steve,

If you are planning to go from a 3.7 final drive to a 4.3, the
work will involve MORE tearing apart of the transmission as
the pinion gear will also have to be removed and replaced
with the one which matches the 4.3 final drive ring gear...

Ah, I see. That makes perfect sense Alf, I just didn't think of it lol.

Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, if you could shoot me a PM where you sourced your 4.3 trans, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry I didn't see this until now...yes AFAIK the only C52's ~easily adapted to the e-series block w/ the 4.3:1 final are the ones being pushed by a 4age, not the 4afe.

I have a 1998 Tercel 2 door coupe automatic, I believe it is a 3 speed and the tranny I bought is a 4 speed , my mechanic is telling me that they are not interchangeable or it does not fit. I am confused now? :dunno:

the ecm and wiring harness are different...

try either a manuel conversion or picking up a 3 speed

Wow! thanks guys, I am going to send it back to the salvage yard. I only paid $250 for it anyway. I would like to do the manual conversion but that means more parts and labor to source out, I guess I am going to get mine rebuilt for now.

Well the salvage yard said it is not worth shipping it back, it's going to cost me $150 for the shipping back to them. Also that the ECM is the same. I do have to change the starter and wiring harness and maybe reflash the comPuter to get it to work.
I don't like this at all, I need some advise, what should I do?
