The reason the solenoid would not activate was due to the low
amperage output of the MSD rpm switch. These switches are meant
to run shift lights and therefore have a very low output of 1.5 amps.

Therefore a very easy solution was created which incorporated a
30amp relay. The wiring diagram I used for the switch and the relay
can be found HERE <- clicky

Also, during the whole intake rebuild, I purchased the gaskets at
http://www.amayama.com/ for a reasonable price of $35 USD
shipped and took about 3-4 weeks for delivery. I thought this was
pretty good seeing as I ordered the gaskets shortly after the whole
earthquake incident.

Part numbers:
17179-11010 Secondary runners (4 port)
17171-11010 Intake body (8 port)

Would a relay be needed?

Aren't you glad I beat this "dead horse" just one more time?

if the rpm switch is low output then, yes, a relay would be necessary.:deal:

btw, if you gotta beat dead horses to get more horses - go for it :lachen:

So a brake booster creates its own vacuum? Hmmm....I need to go to do some reading on how that system operates then.

remove the img code from the pic above and you'll see they are called 'Air-Vacuum-Filter'

the link Doug posted of the vsv shows the 3rd nipple (leg) of the vsv is already equipped with an air filter (the cylindrical looking knob at the end of it).:deal:

where did you get that from? it doesnt create vacuum - it stores it (via the one way valve inline) so your brake will still have power assist when vacuum is absent.

ever try to apply the brakes when the booster is bad or when there's no vacuum assist?

depends on what you are using to trigger the VSV/solenoid

what will be triggering the solenoid?

haltech-not sure of amperagee output

msd switch-1.5 amps

granatelli switch-2 amps

your best bet is a NOS window rpm switch they can drive solenoids directly up to ~15 amps http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Technical/199R10482rev4.pdf

or find a VSV with low amperage draw under 2 amps and get the granatelli

honestly though

the simplest method ive thought of so far is:

take off diaphragm and all that so all that is left is the arm to move the butterflies

then take it to an airplane/helicopter hobby shop hand it to him and say i need a servo motor twelve volt that will move this arm here back and forth this far

then get rpm switch to activate servo

and done

servo moves arm when rpm is reached

i mentioned the servo option off the air

bottom line is though - there are options.

btw, is this a schitcky yet?:dunno:

That diagram doesn't show where the booster gets its vacuum from...
Man I am confused. When I get home, ill draw what I'm talking about that's confusing me in paint...

jus look under your hood and you'll see where the vacuum comes from - a hose/line from the intake manifold.

im thinking that diagram was drawn with the assumption that one would already know where a brake booster gets vacuum from.:dunno:

That's what is confusing me....I know where it gets it from, but accoding to how it should be set up with that diagram u would split that booster line so it gets its vacuum then it also controls the solenoid.
