and so it begins... (97' whitehawk)

well, i just picked up a new motor for my terc and decided to start my WIP so let me get you guys caught up:

when i first got it, it was bone stock besides the window visors and bug guard

started doing simple mods

which brings us to the present

other mods not pictured are:

sony deck
short ram intake
n1 exhaust
quick release w/grant steering wheel
type r replicas
1200watt amp and 12" rf p1 sub (stolen)

now that youre pretty much caught up lets move onto the real reason why i started a wip... 4efte :naughty:

this pic is tersplat's starlet with his 4efte..

and now its my 4e :lachen:

right now im prepping for the swap (ie: contact gt_revva for plug and play harness, cleaning out the garage, and searching the web for necessities). hope everything runs smoothly :waving:

.. thats what i would have said if i didnt already know that no swap ever runs smoothly or on time, so feel free to tag along on this bumpy wip :2thumbsup:

ps: i know my pics arent size appropriate so could someone perhaps fix that for me? ive tried resizing it on photobucket but i guess that didnt help. thanks

Woo hoo. Time to have some serious fun now. Remember you have to run a rerun line for your fuel. I forgot that 97s don't have that. Won't be too hard. If u want it, you can have the pump housing from my paseo it has the nipple. All u would need then would be the line from the engine back to it.

No you don't. 97s don't have the same rail, but you DO NOT have to mod the lines or pump. Use the 5e rail on the 4e engine with the 4e injectors. Add two 3mm washers, one on each stud, to the mounting studs on the fuel rail. Repeat: you do not have to do this mod unless you really want to.

logtail thankyou so much for saving him. I had always heard you had to. thats awesome that you dont. how does it control fuel pressure then if the pump is set to one speed by the 4e ecu and there is no return line. it sounds like you would build up way too much pressure.

The way a 5th gen controls fuel pressure is with a vacuumless regulator on the rail. The pump runs constantly on a 5th gen as well, it just returns within the tank itself. So in actuality, the 5th gen Tercel does have a return style fuel system, it just doesn't do it under the hood. Here's what convinced me that this would work:
CLICK

And then, here was my struggle with this issue:
CLICK
I am of the mindset that it's kinda ghetto to chop up a car's fuel system, and sort of sacrilegious to put a piece of crap American car part (Walbro pump) in a well designed Japanese vehicle. So why chop? We don't do it with our wiring harnesses, so why the hell do it with stuff that contains explosive chemicals?

Hope this helps, illestexpinoy, and good luck with your swap. You have a very nice vehicle to do it with.

I meant we don't butt connect them and otherwise jerry rig them (most of us, anyway). We have them put together by someone who makes them seamlessly integrate with the car. I guess it's a bad comparison, so I apologize for that, but I think you get the point...

So today, I took out my harness to send off and put another one that i got from a j/y in. Unfortunately, it was an auto harness which brings me to this question.. Is an automatic harness compatible with a manual ecu/engine? I plugged everything in, and no start. I was short on time so I couldnt check to see if any senor plugs were loose so I had to drive the astro van to a family dinner. any input on the harness?
