4th gen Tercel 5e swap vacuum/distributor wiring

This particular car is a FED emissioned 91 Tercel originally w/ a 4speed manual (C141) w/ 3ee engine. I swapped in what was effectively a 1st gen 5efe w/ a manual 5speed C151 from a 92 Paseo. I used the 3ee ECM & wiring harness, and modified the distributer wiring and vacuum routing per the following.

Distributor wiring

The GT_Revva 5efe distributor mod is to snip the 4-wire plug off the USDM 5efe distributor, and I cut the 2-wire (red and white) plug off my old 3ee distributor. Connect the red wire coming out of the 5e distributor to the red wire on the 3e distributor plug. Connect the white wire coming out of the 5e distributor to the white wire on the 3e distributor plug. Shrink wrap the green and white w/ black stripe wires. Now plug your 5efe distributor into the 3ee harness.

In this pic you can also see there is another connector to the distributor that remains unchanged. It has a black/tan and a all black wire.

Before the distributor plug pictured on the right above, the 3ee harness has a black and white wire. You can see them sticking out of the plastic sheathing at the very bottom of the picture above. The black wire interfaces w/ the white wire coming out of the plug, and the white wire interfaces w/ the red wire coming out of the plug.

I didn't use the stock 5efe IAC valve that normally is in this location. I just used the normal 3ee VSV#1 to control the idle that is mounted on the passengers side motor mount.

This is a Dorman 555-003 7/16" freeze/expansion plug, used to plug up the port where the IAC is when using the 5efe harness. Found it at the semi-local Smythe Automotive chain. I had to do a little hunting for it. I think AuVeCo had one also, but I forget the P/N.

You know I tried to not use that idle valve as well and instead using the 3ee little VSV, well that think clicked real bad and loud. However, I have 5efe electrnonics so not sure if that was teh difference. I know it never clicked like that on the 3ee setup. So I went back to the idle valve on the intake mani. I will end up eliminating all together................AGAIN.

IIRC, that dashpot was used on auto Paseo's to hold the throttle open when cold, or 'soften' the return to idle when chopping the throttle. Since the above was a manual 91 Tercel, I didn't use that dashpot. 3ee Tercels also have a dashpot, but it is not actuated by vacuum, it just simply 'softens' the return to idle.

That dash pot you really can't use effectively unless you've got the vacuum line with the hardware online of it. I had that ony last tb but I had to run a vac line to it so that it retracts the pin. If not it'll give a high idle.

I wouldn't recommend removing that tube. It doubles as a moisture trap as well as a silencer. If you live an a fairly dry area. It will be fine. But if you have a lot of moisture then it can end up pulling it through your filter and into your engine.
