Myth Dispelled: Comparison between EP91 and EP82 Axles

Right, you may or may not have heard that there was a disparity between the axles from an EP82 and EP91 Starlet turbo, mainly being in the length of the axle, and seeing as I had both laying around, I decided to look into it a bit more.

And right off the bat, the rumours are wrong - it's the EP91 axle that is indeed longer, not the EP82 axle. I'll let the pictures (and subsequent subtitles tell the story):

The difference between the axles

I initially thought the stubs looked different

But evidence of where the difference in length comes from

Further evidence

And another observation

So yeah, mystery dispelled - it is infact the EP91 Glanza axle that is longer than the EP82 Starlet GT axle, by about 10mm - I would think the EP91 Glanza axle is also heavier by a smidge as the hub is elongated in order for a hole to be drilled to locate the ABS Sensor.

Hmmm, well the TRD Catalogue lists different part numbers for them, but, I was using an EP82 Cusco bush on a Glanza axle, it fits, but it gets loose, like, a couple of mm of slack

Interesting! Don't throw that EP82 rear axle in the garbage yet. I'll get it from you later

The axle?!! Err, that's going to be killer postage man :dunce: And I was thinking of using it too (well, THAT one at least, the EP82 axle on my car will be for sale...) as I can refurbish it before swapping it with the EP82 axle currently on my car

yup ^^

A polyurethane bush was supposed to be released by a certain trader but his company seems to have dissolved. Alternatively, once I get the Starlet axle on my car, I'll remove its bushes and fill them with 3M, or leave that job to someone else

Could get a group buy going if there's the interest? I'd know who to talk to and they make PU bushes for like, nearly every car in the world...even the London Taxi's!
