thanks again everyone, i hope your enjoying this as much as i am. i did some measuring for the spindle spacers so i can get those down to the machine shop tomorrow and mocked up the start of the caliper bracket to check the amount of space i have behind the rotor. not sure what my local bone yard has for calipers but i'll find out tomorrow. i really need a the spacers and caliper now to make any progress so it may be a few days before i've got anything new for all of you. have a good one ron

An idea for your spacers, cut he face out of a few core rotors.

fwd....understeer, get it closer to neutral and it gets to the point that when it gets tail happy....its too late, its not coming back, put more rubber back there, and you can push it even harder, provided you tune more into oversteer from the previous neutral, to take advantage of your extra rear traction

^^^
& it also helps the braking... with rear discs, they lock up easier... but with wider contact patch, you can control it better...

back again...nothing for calipers in the local yard so i ordered a rebuilt to use for the mock-up. the jetta hub is shorter than the tercel's so a spacer is needed between the inner bearing and the shoulder of the spindle(in effect shortening the spindle) and another spacer behind the outer bearing cup( gives you the effect of lengthining the hub) with both of them in place the face of the rotor will end up right where the origional drum was....so sorry folks it won't give you any more room for bigger tires. catch ya later

are you sure you won't change you mind? why...is there something wrong with the one i have?

progress!! picked up a caliper this afternoon and got the adaptor mocked up in lexan and fiberglass resin. had to grind off the sharp corners of the plate where the spindle mounts to the axle so there would be a bit more meat to the adaptor. it's tight but it fits. i'll drop the mock up off at the machinists tomorrow and get him to do up a pair. going to switch the calipers left to right as well so the parking brake cables work better. thats it for now but stay tuned for another installment of "as the rotor turns"[img][/img]

thanks dzaster, the tercel's brakes are going a lot quicker than the ones i built for my 66 plymouth...helps a lot when you can put the rear axle up on stands instead of doing it under the car:curse:
